  1. I cannot praise Sally's personal tuition course highly enough - I learned a huge amount in my 5 sessions including: theoretical aspects of photography; how to better use all the functions of my camera; and how to think about taking better pictures. I now feel that I have the confidence to develop photography as a serious hobby. I would certainly recommend a course with Sally if you have an interest in photography but feel daunted by the complexities of your camera and want to develop some theoretical knowledge.

  2. Great course. It was a great refresher for some of the things I already knew, but I also learnt a lot of new skills and felt much more confident using my camera and directing models afterwards. Advice on post production was also really useful and I was already noticing things I could improve on before I left.
    Thanks very much!

  4. Thank you Sally,
The Beginners Photography Course more than met my expectations. I really appreciated your help before the start of the course sorting out my camera.
I enjoyed all of it. I think it was a good balance between learning the theory and the practicals to try it out. The locations were all good and easy to get to and very useful for putting into practice the theory we learnt.
There was nothing missing from the course to introduce you to photography. It was also a compfortable and friendly environment to learn in and I am looking forward to the post-production course in the not too distant future.

  5. The course met my expectations as a beginner.  The course gave more understanding how to be familiar with ALL settings and
covered everything I was looking for.  My favourite part of the course was Manual Mode which enabled me to take full control of all settings. The location of the practical workshops were great for putting new skills into practice.
I highly recommend this course, especially to those, who despite having a camera and taking photos, need better understanding of all settings and controls, which gives more opportunity to go further and enjoy taking shots.

  6. The course definitely met my expectations. I feel I now know how to use the creative modes and am looking forward to experimenting with them. I especially enjoyed being out and about and being able to look at the photographs to see the different effects.

The locations were ideal for me and provided good opportunities to learn.

The course was easy to book and communication and flexibility were both excellent.

I’d like to learn more about composition next and I’m looking forward to joining the camera club soon.

I would recommend the course to anyway wishing to learn the basics. It has definitely helped me to understand my camera and gain confidence to use it.

  7. Hi Sally,
I just wanted to say thank you for yesterday's club workshop, I really enjoyed it despite the weather. It certainly helped cement some of the learnings from the course especially when using a wide angle or fixed lens… get up close; zoom lens… step back and zoom in, to create the shallow depth of field, that makes so much sense to me now.
    Many thanks again,
    Nina

  8. The course exceeded my expectations… I had not realised how important understanding how the camera works helps with decision making when aiming for the perfect picture. The theory and practical ratio was good and I loved it all, but enjoyed the practical session thoroughly… great locations and surprisingly with the lucky weather! I feel much more confident now using my camera and lenses… will definitely be back for a post production course later in the year.
    Thank you so much

  9. The courses met my expectations and greatly exceeded them! Sally is a great, super friendly and very easy to get along with. I always looked forward to my sessions and always enjoyed them. I learn't a lot on the course, everything was taught well and explained really well. I wouldn't have changed a thing and my favourite part was learning Photoshop. The courses have inspired me to keep photographing.

  10. Dear Sally
I have really enjoyed the beginners photography course and I've learnt such a lot about my camera and taking good photographs with you. Your knowledge and passion for this art have made each session feel like a steep learning curve. I know I have so much more to learn but thank you for helping me make a start. I hope to find time for further courses in the future. In the mean time I'll keep practicsing.

  11. I bought a really nice camera and had no clue how to use it, Sally was recommended to me a local photography shop in Salisbury. Her style of teaching is perfect for a beginner like me as she broke every bit of the tuition into small parts and also went over the bits I didn’t get with great patience. Now thanks to Sally I use my camera in all modes including manual because she gave me the confidence to do so. Brilliant experience for me as Sally is passionate about what she does. Will definitely be going back for more training, also she is there for back up and tips if required. 10/10.

  15. Dear Sally,
I would like to take this chance to thank you for the courses I have done with you which have informed me, inspired me, and helped me move out of my ‘professional’ role into whoever ‘me’ is. Does that make sense? Your gentle but informative style helped me to engage with the material and content, and move me on.
Again, thank you Sally for your wonderful horse photographs (which drew me to your website in the first place) and your patience and support. May your inspiration to others continue.

  18. I have taken three of Sally’s courses (Beginners/Post Production/Intermediate) and have enjoyed every one of these sessions. Sally is a brilliant teacher who is passionate about her subject and explains everything in a clear precise manner. She has endless patience and will reinforce things if there are areas you didn’t understand straight away. She provides helpful handouts that you can refer to when you are practicing the things that have been taught on the course. My photography skills have moved on so much thanks to Sally’s excellent tuition and I thoroughly recommend her courses.

  20. Photography Tour: Cornwall: (South West Coast & Bodmin Moor)
The tour really met and exceeded all my expectations. It was great to spend time with other people who wanted to learn more about their cameras and taking photos but were very interesting and fun people. We were not all the same age or gender and had not met before but from day one got on like we knew each other for years. Over the weekend we learnt a lot from each other and Sally’s attentive but not obtrusive coaching and advice. From camera settings (we all had different cameras) to pointing out ways to shoot and photo opportunities we would have missed because we were concentrating on getting settings right. The weekend was very varied and Sally kept it very interesting always taking a consensus of opinion from the group before moving on. I think my favorite part was when we reached Bedruthan Steps late in the afternoon and it was raining heavily coming down sidewise, the Tea shop had just closed and we did not expect to take any more photos that day. We trusted Sally and ventured down the 120 steps to the beach. The rain either stopped or did not reach the beach and we spent ages in caves shooting waves and water trickling down the cliff face. It was a great afternoon.
The locations were fabulous and all previously, carefully researched by Sally. Our accommodation was great, everyone had their own room and en-suite bathroom. We had a very large kitchen and wonderful dining room with a table big enough for us all to have laptops open and look at our own and each other’s photos in the evening. There was also a large living room with comfy sofas. The people at Ta Mill could not have been more helpful.
I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone who loves photography irrespective of experience. Getting away from everything with the time to concentrate on something you love with likeminded people should not be missed.
The tour surpassed my exceptions. Great trip, great people and learnt a lot. We had beautiful accommodation and ate well. Just the right mix of practical and theory and the best bit was it was fun and relaxing, the very best conditions to learn and meet and get to know new people. Sally quietly orchestrated it all taking everyone’s experience and capabilities into consideration. I can’t wait until the next long weekend trip even if it is back to Cornwall and the same spots, would definitely go again.
    Thanks Sally

Photography Tour: Cornwall (South West Coast & Bodmin)
I could not wish for a better intensive photo course and tour! The advice and guidance provided was brilliant and more than met expectations. There was a good balance of education and support for the scenes we were shooting with a great variety of locations. Cornwall has to be one of the best places for photography as there is so much variety e.g. seascapes, cliffs and moorlands. Everyone in the group was really friendly and prepared to muck in when it came to meal times. I would certainly recommend this type of tour as one can obtain so many useful tips, plus you can get so much help from the others on the tour.
Already looking forward to the next one!
    Many thanks

  22. I have always loved taking pictures and I booked my place on Sally Edwards Beginner Course, to get my camera off auto and fully understand photography lingo. From the word go, Sally was helpful, patient and I learnt something new every week. I was also able to put into practice each new skill learned every week, with the help of invaluable hand outs and task sheets. This really helped to keep me focused. Sally is very encouraging and shared her wide knowledge on photography, and her own images were very inspiring. I recommend this course to anyone with a keen interest in photography, who not only want to learn about their camera and photography, but to learn from a fantastic photographer and a very inspiring teacher.

  23. I really enjoyed the course and learnt so much, it totally met my expectations. I would highly recommend Sallys course. I liked the informal approach and the virtually one to one tuition. Sally explains things really well and allows for the difference levels of understanding within the group. I never felt I could’nt ask questions if I didn’t understand. We were set some really good practical homework as well which really got me thinking about what I had learnt and how to question what I was doing to make sure I was using the correct settings on my camera as well as thinking about light and composition.

All three of us really appreciated how flexible you have been in accommodating us and have all really enjoyed your company
I would certainly recommend the course because I have not only learnt a lot but am enthused to go on and do more. I am looking forward to the post production course and joining you on the photo days.

  27. Hi Sally,
The beginners course was just what I needed. It helped me to become more familiar with my camera and the different settings. The post production course was good because it made me aware of shortcuts in Photoshop that I hadn't been using and also was nice to see how the experts do it. I am definitely going to be exploring photoshop more and using it to edit my pictures.
Thank you for the courses. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next one.

  28. Hello Sally,
Thank you for a thoroughly interesting day. I have been taking photographs for more than sixty years, but have always felt that I could do better. With modern cameras it is always easy to rely on the “auto” button, but today you demonstrated its shortcomings and how to use other facilities on the camera which give better results. As you suggested I need to “play” daily in order to master these facilities. I found the day very instructive and enjoyable. You have opened my eyes and I will look at my efforts far more critically in the future.
    Many thanks

  32. Beginners Photography Course

This course fulfilled my needs exactly. I have used my camera for serveral years without really understanding what most of the settings did, or how to improve my chances of getting a good photo, and I found the User Manual completely impenetrable.
In this course, sally took us, slowly and patiently, through the options; showing what the buttons did, and when to use them.
I now have a much better understanding of my camera and am confident that I will know what to try when the light conditions are not optimum.

  34. Earlier this year I had the pleasure of joining a lovely group headed by Sally on a 8 week photograpy course, at first I thought it was easy and was getting along just fine, but then things became more intense and I am so glad this happened as I have learned so much from this course, Sally has been fantastic teaching us all different things about my camera, the light, the shortcuts, how we percieve a picture we take, its all coming together nicely and Sally has told us to practice, practice, practice and I thoroughly love my camera taking all sorts of photographs, I live in a fairly rural area and therefore am blessed with various wildlife and colour changing scenes. Thank you Sally for making this possible for me to understand my camera more. I fully recommend anyone who has been recently given a camera or indeed if having a christmas present, to contact Sally for a workshop session.

Venue: Very pleasant venue, easy parking, bright clean sunny room, good kitchen facilities plus sofa balcony - and Sally brings tea, coffee, biscuits and cake - much appreciated!

Course content: Phew! A thorough grounding in the basics.

Handout material: Very well presented and useful.

Sally is an interested and committed teacher and very approachable. The day was well planned and presented and very thorough. She gave us well over her allotted time on each of the two days. There is a lot to learn and I'm still trying to digest it and put it into practice with the help of the well constructed task sheets provided. I have confidence in knowing that I can call Sally or email her if I get stuck.

It was an excellent introduction to photography. Just what I was looking for.

  44. "Sally is a brilliant photography teacher. She has endless patience and a calm nature and understands that it can take time for the light bulb or 'penny drop' moment to come with those tricky technical aspects of photography. She never once sounded condescending or frustrated but just explained things clearly and repeatedly where necessary.
I think this is because Sally comes at photography from the desire to create a beautiful image rather than from the perspective of a scientist or technician, which I found so helpful when learning the ropes.
When I launched my own business Sally supported me whole heartedly and selflessly, and never held back in answering any questions I had. In an industry which can be alienating and competitive Sally was one in a million.
I will be eternally grateful to her"
